Blast from the past

We were in a neighboring city and needed to print some forms from the Internet.
To the Library!

We could pay or register my library card...

The lady puts in my information and says, ' You have a fine from 1998. Its $2.80."

I am shocked. 15 years ago.

I say something like "okay, ummm. I don't know. "

She says " You DON'T know?!?!"

I should have said 'It was 15 years ago, you just told me there is a fine, no information about the book or if it was even for a late book, just that you say I have a fine from over a decade ago. '

But I just paid it and moved on.
